Compliance Officers

The Commissioner's staff includes compliance officers who assist the Commissioner in the enforcement of legislation that the Commissioner is responsible for administering.

The Commissioner provides each compliance officer with an identification badge and a compliance officer is required to produce the badge on request.

Responsibilities of a Compliance Officer

Compliance Officers:
  • are responsible for detecting and reporting breaches of the Liquor Licensing Act 1997, Gaming Machines Act 1992, and other relevant legislation by conducting investigations throughout the state, to ensure compliance.
  • prepare witness statements, records of interviews and collate evidence which enable reports and recommendations to be accurately recorded and presented to the Commissioner.
  • are required to advise the licensee of recommended remedial action arising from non-compliance with liquor and gaming legislation, and as required, inform and advise appropriate agencies as well as reporting all non-compliance issues to the Commissioner.
  • contribute to the ongoing education of licensees regarding the management and maintenance and other matters relating to liquor and gaming legislation by providing advice, relevant to the role of the compliance officer, of their rights, obligations and responsibilities in accordance with the Liquor Licensing Act 1997 and the Gaming Machines Act 1992 and other relevant legislation.
  • participate in taskforce operations (both overt and covert) in conjunction with officers from other agencies such as police, fire services, environmental protection authorities, and local government. Taskforce operations may take place outside normal business hours.
  • ensure that responsible service principles and practices are being adhered to by licensees, approved responsible persons and gaming managers, to ensure compliance with the Liquor Licensing Act 1997 and the Gaming Machines Act 1992.
