What is Schoolies?
Schoolies is phenomena celebrated by Year 12 school leavers from all around
Australia. It takes place after the Year 12 exams around mid-November through
to mid-December.
The Schoolies Festival in South Australia is run by a non-profit organisation
called Encounter Youth.
Their aim is to provide bands, food, and other entertainment
to schoolies in a safe environment. Encounter Youth have put in place a number of
measures including:
3 night music festival
provision of security guards at all 'schoolies' venues
a team of 400+ volunteers
Collaboration and attendance by various Government agencies including the
Office of the Liquor and Gambling Commissioner to ensure safe party
messages are presented to all schoolies attending the event.
Celebrated informally in Victor Harbor for the past twenty years. In recent
times however, the scale of this annual 'migration' has become larger with
10,000+ school leavers now making the trip to Victor Harbor in order to
celebrate collectively at the South Australia's major schoolies event
'Schoolies Festival'.
Above are advertisements that will be displayed at the Schoolies Festival this year.
